Volcanic ash airline delays

We had a package holiday in Rome through Easyjet, but had to make our own way home because of non flying due to the volcanic ash. Easyjet did not make available any assistance, advice or help. Easyjet have reimbursed us for the extra accommodation in Rome and the cost of a return flight, but consistently refuse to pay any claimed costs of 30 Euros each per day for meals (which they agree are 'reasonable') because I did not keep receipts. I think I have a case but am unsure of how to procede.
