Using uncopyrighted photos
Hi ppl :)
I'm building a website for a charity event, like I have done for the last four years. This charity event has become so successful that there was an attempted (but failed) coo a few months back, and now the failed 'cooies' are causing trouble, and trying to hinder this year's event.
I can deal with most of their deluded requests, but the problem I'd like to ask about concerns uncopyrighted photographs. Two of the failed 'cooies' who would like to be "no longer associated with the charity" has asked that their faces are removed from our website (previous events photos) and any publicity material. Fair enough!
But now they're demanding that I delete any photographs taken with their cameras?!?!?! These are not copyrighted photos. Just amatuer snapshots from the previous events, but it would be a big chuck of the photos that would be deleted.
Can I tell them to get stuffed please? This could be a big metaphorical kick in the crotch for the charity we raise funds for :( Publicity is very important in getting the numbers we need to raise sponsorship for our local hospice.
I can provide more info if you need it.
Thank you.

Whoever took the photographs
Whoever took the photographs owns the copyright unless they have assigned it to someone else. There does not have to be a formal registration as such of the copyright. I am of the view that they can ask you to stop uising them even though you previously had permission.
I note that this will have a harmful effect on your own plans...I am not an expert, i believe the above is the truth but it would be worth asking a copyright expert for a view.
