Role of trustee of a private members club

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

My club has several trustees who are responsible for looking after club assets (property and savings)... they are all of good character, all have been trustees for several years, and all expected to be trustees for life ... following a recent change of management committee, the trustees are now being asked (& being made to feel extremely uncomfortable in the process) to resign.

The reason maybe that the committee want to take control of a large amount of money, held by trustees, that has been earmarked for the future upkeep of the building & they see the trustees as obstacles.

Are the committee, who have yet to prove themselves financially competent, correct in thinking they can just dismiss legally appointed trustees for no reason other than their face doesn't fit?

The appointment of the

The appointment of the Trustees and indeed the Committee must be in accordance with the rules of the Association.

The rules should tell you the precise situation.

I believe that a modern high street practice must adapt to the hefty demands of clients and deliver it's services according to the clients wishes.

The necessity for trustees in a private members club

Interestingly, the club I am a member of is in a similar position to that cited by "integrity" on 24/08/10.

The response to this question was to look into the constitution of the club.

My query is more about the need for trustees in such a club. Is there a legal requirement to have trustees, and, if not, am I correct in assuming that their responsibilities and duties could be devolved to the committee, subject to ratification at an AGM? Please comment on the pros and cons of having trustees in a club with limited assets (eg leased property and assets of less than £20,000).
