Regulation

You will have read the reports on the recent case of Ms Yvonne Hossack the campaigning solicitor who acted to save care homes from closure.  She was hauled before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal for breaches of the code of conduct following complaints by local authorities.  She was cleared of all allegations except for one minor matter.

Is the SRA now out of control in it’s regulation and are we now over regulated?

This is reported to have cost

This is reported to have cost Ms Hossack £40,000 to defend herself.

On the subject of cost, you may have noticed that the PC fees have increased from £995 to £1,180 for 2009/10.  The Law Society receives £256, the LCS receives £281 with the SRA taking the largest portion at £492. (The remainder is attributable to the OLC implementation and running costs levy).

I wonder what the SRA's costs were in the action against Ms Hossack.
