Police Pensions

We all make mistakes in life, thats the nature of being human. If we make a professional mistake then the worst that happens to most people is losing a job. It seems with increasing regularity, in fact it seems the norm, that if a Police officer messes up, whether because he just makes a mistake or he breaks the law the consequences are far worse. There is forever a cry for the officer to lose their job but more often than not they lose their pension as well.

Is this the right way to treat The Poice? Anyone else who pays into their pension for the whole of their career does not see it disappear because of a mistake. Why should we treat the Police in this way. it has always struck me as grossly unfair.
