Law Society Conveyancing Quality Scheme

Is this just another money making exercise by the Law Society, or does it serve a useful purpose in raising its members profile with the public & providing the public with quality assurance? What are forum members views?

I do not really believe this

I do not really believe this will raise our profile with the general public one bit.

I regret to say that clients do not give a stuff about the identity of their conveyancer as long as the service is cheap and they can move when they want to.

It is of course a different matter when problems arise.

High street solicitors do however have a major problem which is bearing down on them like a juggernaut.

For reasons we all know lenders are looking to cut down their panels to an absolute minimum number.

If major lenders removed a high street firm from it's panel it is my belief that that firm would go out of business.

It is as serious as that.

It therefore seems to me that this is an attempt by the Law Society to counter that and make a bit of money on the side.

The day will soon come when a lender will insist on some form of accreditation as just the starting point of an application to join it's panel.

If you do have that you will not even clear the first hurdle and your business is down the drain.

Profile: I joined Sarginsons from university as an articled clerk in 1970. I am now the managing partner and have wide experience in all aspects of the law normally dealt with in private practice. I believe that a modern high street practice must adapt to the hefty demands of clients and deliver it's services according to the clients wishes.

I agree with you that the day will soon come when a lender will insist on some form of accreditation as just the starting point of an application to join it's panel.
