Impending dog bite claim

Hi,

Back in 2009 I had a delivery person start compensation procedings against myself because my dog bit his hand whilst in my home. A non agressive miss judged bite I might add.

Stupidly I ignored all the letters, a little threatened, hoping it would go away, I don't know why.

I have recieved a letter stating there is to be a court hearing on the 22nd of December where they will decide how much I should pay the delivery driver in compensation plus costs.

My question is, am I now stuck & have to accept the verdict? Is there anything I can do before the hearing to help the situation? Can I have it postponed so I may give my version of events? Or is it too late now & I have to reap what I have sown!

Thank you.
