Crossing the line

In truly unbelieveable scenes a pensioner is dragged from his vehicle which is then trashed by police.

All because he was not wearing a seatbelt.

This is Iran - sorry Uk 2010.

Hmmm....

It wasn't because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, this is only what started the events.

I would like to see both sides of the argument, which unfortunately our media often refuses to present.  I shudder to think what the sensationalist tabloids made of this.  Of course the driver is going to claim he thought it was medication time etc.

I'm not supporting the police's actions should his case be genuine, but it is hard to judge without hearing the police's justification (which I would assume was a reaction to the driver's actions prior to him taking off rather than the offence of not wearing a seatbelt).  From looking at his mid-life crisis jeans & T-Shirt, 4 wheel drive and personal registration plate there is a chance that he may be the type to tell the police what he thinks of them. By driving off not only is he telling them that he is above the law, but it also raises suspicion (is he transporting something illegal?)

Its just a shame the media have to fabricate the facts and put a spin on it, presenting it as though the oppressive state are attacking vulnerable and innocent citizens.

I also wonder whether this story would gain the same amount of exposure had the driver been of a different ethnicity and age.

Currently sitting LPC examinations and tearing my hair out at the ambiguously phrased Multiple Choice Questions!
