Confusing Birth Certificate Question
Submitted by scottlpool2003 on Thu, 05/05/2011 - 15:05
I was born Callan, but was adopted and given the name Brade. The adoption only lasted around 3 years and from that time I was placed in care and stuck up contact with my biological family since then. I recently had a baby girl, but the first thing I did when I found out we were expecting was change my name back to Callan.
Does this mean I can revert back to my original birth certificate?
I did ask at my local council office and they said it was on the discretion of the council of the town where I was born.
This sounds a little odd to me though, any advise would be excellent.
Thanks.

Once an adopted child reaches
Once an adopted child reaches the age of 18 they are allowed, by law, to obtain their original birth certificate (people usually do this when they want to trace their birth families).
Your original birth certificate will have the word 'adopted' written on it.
I would imagine it is doubtful that you could use it as any form of identification (though few people use birth certificates as identification these days anyway as they are so easy to obtain). Legally your adoption certificate is the official document, so I don't think it is possible for you to simply revert to using your birth certificate.
