Christianity and the Cross

Right now I am angry.

Probably I should not post when in this frame of mind but today I do not care.

I have just read that a nurse working in the NHS has been demoted because she wears a cross to confirm her christian faith. Her employers have forced her to remove this as it is in breach of their dress code.

Presumably she has made an application to the employment tribunal complaining that she has been the subject of discrimination because - and here is the part that is making me angry - the tribunal wants evidence to prove the cross is a christian symbol.

Have our courts no knowledge of the history of our country? Does that history and all those who have died to keep this country safe count for nothing?

What have we come to? This is Easter week and our courts do not know the meaning of what happened 2000 years ago and the events based upon it.

This must surely be the ultimate failure of the new labour project.

I would have thought that the tribunals and her employers should be asking whether the cross interfered with her work. It should not be a question of how pious she is, which seems to be the implication here.
