Change of Land use

I have approx 1.5 acres of paddock land adjoining my property. I have and access gate in place to a main road adjacent to it. The paddock is currently not being used but I’d like to put some yurts on the land and rent them out. The paddock is situated in Cumbria.
What are the considerations to be taken into account when I apply for a change of land use?
Thanks

The main consideration would
The main consideration would be the way the land is designated by the council in their structure plan and the policies associated with that designation.
You will probably have to speak to the council planning department to elicit their unofficial view.
Change of Land Use
I have got a copy of the South Lakeland Local Plan, what land designations would prevent me from obtaining a 'change of use' for my paddock land?

You should be able to see
You should be able to see from the plan if the paddock is in say a green belt area or say an area where holiday housing might be built.
Once that is established you should consult the council's policy for development within that type of designation.
For instance if the area is green belt then the council may still allow certain development but only on certain conditions. The Local Plan should tell you this or at least point you to where the detailed policy can be found.
It is difficult to answer your question precisely and I regret I am not familiar with planning issues in Cumbria.
However a designation of public open space or maybe a national park would make things difficult for you.
I do think it will depend on the exact designation.
