I have recently seen an advert to buy a uk registered car from spain. The owner brought the car from the uk and returned with it to spain at the end of her university studies, She now wants to sell the car in the UK. Where do I stand with buying a uk reg car from abroad? what agencies would I need to go through? and what is the safest way to complete the transaction?

Unfortunately I cannot
Unfortunately I cannot ascertain from your request whether the vehicle is left hand drive or right hand drive. I can only assume from the fact that the vehicle is already registered in the UK it is a UK vehicle that is right hand drive.
I would suggest you access the DVLA website on www.dvla.gov.uk and scroll to “vehicle information” and there is a section on exporting and importing vehicles. This is a useful resource for ascertaining what the legal requirements are. This site also provides useful information on bringing the vehicle back to the UK. If you have any specific questions they have a useful helpline on 0300 790 6802.
In terms of completing the transaction it is important that you are aware of the condition of the vehicle therefore you must have sight of the log book. It is important to inspect the vehicle in person and perhaps ask someone qualified to inspect it.
