Bitter widow

Hi
my brother passed away 2 month ago and was due £2m from a claim he had won,he told my mother and i that he would look after us financially before he died.
he was/is married with 2 kids, his wife will not speak to me or our mother and is being gready with her intent with the money and spiteful not giving any of his ashes to us.
do my mother and i have any way of claiming any of this money my brother was due, he did not have a will?
any advice with be welcomed.
